Lance Shaw

Program Intake Specialist

My name is Lance Shaw and I’m excited to be a part of the Rise Recovery family. I’m native to San Antonio and love the culture and diversity the city has to offer. I have a Bachelor of Science degree from Wayland Baptist University and enjoy cycling, listening to music and spending time with friends and family. I began interning as Rise in February 2023 and immediately knew I wanted to be a part of what was taking place here. Although I now work at Rise Recovery, I’m also still earning hours to complete both my RSPS and MHPS certifications.

I have 3 boys and a daughter whom I love deeply and which, became my motivation to stay sober. The path I was headed down was going to leave them without a father and I couldn’t risk doing that to them. You see, I was in pain management due to back problems and quickly realized I had become dependent upon the powerful opioids I was being prescribed. Benzodiazepines were also prescribed for anxiety, which proved to be a near fatal combination on more than one occasion. While in the ICU, several different doctors told me I was lucky to be alive and that God had saved me for a reason. I quickly felt my “reason” was to support others who suffer from substance use disorder and help them find a new way to live, as they deserve the same opportunity at a happy and healthy new life as I did.
